Cherry Orchard has been very fortunate to have these visitors on Wednesday 13th January 2016. The scientists, as well as thrilling Key Stage 1, wowed Key Stage 2 with intriguing and fascinating shows. Pupils gazed and gaped at digestion (though many were squirming or squeamish) in “It Takes Guts”. Then, during the second show – “Feel the Force” – they were mesmerised and hypnotised by forces.

The Winter Fairmarked the end of an exciting and successful Autumn Term. With toys and books selling out in the first 45 minutes, cakes flying off the tables, hot dogs and hot drinks being consumed by many and candy floss keeping everyone happy. The ducks were hooked, the bear was named, crafts were underway and the face painting stall was inundated with customers! Fantastic hampers were raffled off to the lucky winners, and to top it all, Tiny Tim the pony made a special visit with our friends from the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association). Thank you to everyone who donated items and to those who donated their time. Special thanks to the parents who attended the planning meetings and to Ms Hassan for organising. An incredible £610 was made and will be used to buy new playground equipment in the new year.

Our adults came too to enjoy the story creating workshop, where we acted out all the roles! We delved into the outdoor playground and discovered a huge dinosaur, a pirate ship and lots of different things to investigate!

As scientists we have explored the world all around us! We have found where snails, slugs and many more insects live in our playground. We wanted to find out if we could grow our own tomatoes. We used tomatoes, our healthy snack, cut them up and discovered they were full of seeds! We had the idea that we could plant some of them and the others we could feed to our snails!

We love writing stories and acting them out. Everyone has a chance to write their own amazing story in the special class book! We then become actors and the audience, sharing the story with everyone. With our incredible imaginations we have become massive castles, giant dinosaurs, miniature ponies and even balloons!
